The Temple of the Tooth Relic, locally known as Sri Dalada Maligawa, is one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. Built within the royal palace complex of the former Kandyan Kingdom, the temple is a masterpiece of traditional Kandyan architecture, adorned with intricate carvings, golden roofs, and serene courtyards. The relic, kept in a golden casket inside a heavily
guarded shrine, is believed to bring prosperity and protection to the island. Every year, the famous Esala Perahera festival is held here, showcasing a grand procession with beautifully decorated elephants,
traditional dancers, and drummers honoring the sacred relic.

The city receives a fair amount of rainfall, especially during the Southwest Monsoon (May to August) and Northeast Monsoon (October to December). The months from December to April are generally considered the best time to visit, offering clear skies and mild weather.
